Below, are a few of our high profile projects.

St. Francis of Assisi

Roman Catholic Church

The parish council came to us with a problem; their current sound system was old (very old), and members of the parish could not hear anything. We found a sound system with two speakers located at the front of the church, and an old “PA System” style mixer/amp. The system appeared to be circa the 70’s. Wiring was haphazardly strung across doorways, and the microphones were ancient. The primary complaint was the lack of volume and intelligibility of the sound system.

The church building itself, presented another unique problem. The construction featured brick walls, and a high ceiling with timber beam construction. This meant that any solution had to be correctly designed to limit reflection of produced sounds, and prevent feedback. Wiring would have to be surface mounted, and equipment had to be user-friendly yet secure from unauthorized tampering. There was also a large choir loft; presently used for additional seating, but also reserved for the location of the music ministry in the future.

We chose to install Yorkville speakers, which are built in Canada, and are well known for their clarity and tone. Next we carefully planned the location of the speakers. The end result is that one can stand anywhere in the church and the sound is always the same; no dead spots, no reflections. The four main speakers were 200W, with two 100W fill speakers to cover the back of the church and choir loft.

To bring out the best of the Yorkville speakers, we paired them with a Behringer digital equalizer/processor. The digital equalizer automatically detects the acoustic ‘shape’ of the room, and pulls down the frequencies that would cause feedback in that space. It also has a feedback destroyer, stereo imaging, and parametric graphic equalizer which can be used in place of the AutoEQ.

For microphones, we relied on Shure. Well proven with professional artists, Shure was an obvious choice for vocal reproduction. The Countryman earset microphone paired with the wireless system, provided the priest with a weightless, nearly invisible microphone.

We wired the whole system with Gotham audio cable. The speaker wiring needed to be surface mounted, so we needed a cable that sounded amazing, but also looked great. As we have come to expect; Gotham fit the bill perfectly.

When we put together all these high quality components, the result was a sound system that surpassed the whole parish’s expectations. They could finally hear the whole mass, understand what was being said, and sing along with the choir.

We used a furniture style racking system which blended with the décor, and provide secure storage of the equipment when not being used. The top of the rack featured a Behringer mixer, with non-complicated controls. Next we installed a Middle Atlantic power distribution sequencer; one button, sequenced on/off power to prevent speaker blow-outs. We added a few storage drawers, and a Denon 5 disc CD player, and rounded out the package with a Yorkville power amplifier. We also supplied a second Behringer mixer; which can be use as an auxiliary console in the choir loft, without having to relocate the entire system.

Results: fantastic. The parish was thrilled to have a sound system that provided intelligible speech, a full range of frequencies for music and even distribution; all with no hum, no buzz, no feedback.
